How CANAVUA Helps Other Organizations Build Capacity

CANAVUA helps other non-profit organizations in Alberta to build capacity.

One of CANAVUA's main roles, besides promoting and enhancing volunteering in Edmonton's francophone community, is to help other non-profit organizations build capacity. In fact, volunteers are essential to non-profit capacity, and CANAVUA refers volunteers to other organizations through the Protocol Crew.

There are more than 100 francophone non-profit and ethnocultural organizations in Alberta and more than 23,000 non-profit organizations in total, all of which rely on volunteers to fulfill their mandates.

With over 10 years of experience in the non-profit and voluntary sectors, CANAVUA is uniquely positioned to advise new non-profit organizations in matters relating to volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition, as well as other areas of importance in the non-profit world (such as regulatory considerations and broader organizational capacity). CANAVUA is consulted by up-and-coming non-profit organizations for imperative advice in these areas.

The capacity of our non-profit sector can only be bolstered through focused advocacy and the support of governments at all levels. CANAVUA has developed very productive partnerships with government leaders to propel the voluntary movement in Edmonton, Alberta and Canada and to strengthen Alberta's francophone community.

We always welcome new partnerships with other community organizations. Our executive director, Dicky Dikamba, works closely with other organizations' representatives and directors through workshops, conferences and one-on-one meetings.

By building the capacity of other organizations, CANAVUA in turn builds its own capacity. After all, every non-profit organizations in Alberta's francophone community benefits from a culture of resilience and mutual collaboration.
